Story Roles and Responsibilities
Students will work in assigned teams of three. Each student will be responsible for one of the three roles below (a different role for each story). Students will complete and submit self-and peer-evaluations upon completion of each story. We look forward to viewing your stories!
Producer / ASSISTANT EDITOR:
• researches topic
• identifies potential interviewees
• conducts pre-interview (by phone or in person)
• schedules and prepares the interviewee
• conducts further research
• develops questions (teammates can offer input here)
• checks out all gear (camera, tripod, audio recorder, mics, • batteries for all, lighting?) with DP.
• arrives for shoot 1 hour earlier before the interview to set up
• conducts interview (takes notes)
• sends thank you note(s) on AMP letterhead or via email to interviewee(s)
• participates in collaborative edit sessions

Director of Photography (DP) / ASSISTANT EDITOR:
• scouts location (before shoot, coordinates with Producer)
• checks out all gear (camera, tripod, audio recorder, mics, • batteries for all, lighting?) with Producer.
• arrives for shoot 1 hour earlier before the interview to set up
• sets up camera (white balance, exposure, shot composition, best lens)
• sets up lights (collaboratively with Audio Engineer)
• asks follow up questions once Producer concludes
• imports and syncs all audio and video with Audio Engineer
• returns all gear (camera, tripod, audio recorder, mics, batteries for all, lighting?)
• participates in collaborative edit sessions
• checks out all gear (camera, tripod, audio recorder, mics, • batteries for all, lighting?) with Producer.

• imports and syncs all audio and video with Director of Photography
• trims and organizes all footage (interviews, b-roll, selects)
• leads collaborative edit session
• uploads rough cut for in-class review
• leads post rough cut collaborative edit session
• uploads final edit, brings digital file for in-class delivery
• sets up audio gear (test mics, set levels)
• sets up lights (collaboratively with Director of Photography)
• collects signed release form at interview (turn in with story)
• mics the interviewee before interview
