Post production workshop:
1) nat sound
Use nat sound early and often!
Continental, Ohio: https://vimeo.com/35383357
Even on low budget, short pieces with wall to wall VO, look for opportunities to create a breath between VO and/or add texture beneath the VO:

Nat sound can be a fantastic transitional element, especially when moving from one interview to an other. Use the interviewee’s breath!

2) b-roll sequences
Great videos are made up of interesting b-roll, nat sound/music, concise interview narrative.
(continue previous Laura Edwards sample) film experiential interview, then double back and shoot b-roll that is relevant to what was discussed in the interview.
Reenact actions and shoot them from multiple angles. Then edit these together to match action (discussed in bare bones). Check out the record selection and playback in this story:

3) Soundbites/interviews (polishing the interview)
Google gravity games. Never less than 2 b-roll shots per cutaway. Sequences that change depth and angle (look at android guy, look at gate crash and cars coming out).
4) Process for crafting interwoven interviews:
Review the process here: https://www.evernote.com/l/AGvqsli4gtNLBKsjY_y8KP8oNSpagtPn2B8
What could be more boring than a bunch of consultants droning on about a government procurement project?
We filmed all 6 interviews in one day and had 1 hour for b-roll (team building at a go cart track).
Still, by weaving the sound bytes together tightly it makes the viewing experience bearable: https://vimeo.com/35294779
Soundbytes as short as “it’s an ambitious project."
2:30-3:10 B-roll makes everything better
