-Survival of sexual violence
-Got certification as a horticultural therapist and dedicated her life to this work
Raj Bunnag
-Artist, printmaker,
-Originally from Baltimore, moved here recently
-Social injustice on the war on drugs (failed war on drugs)
-Is super excited, having an event at Ponysaurus
-Will be displaying some of his art
-Studio in Burlington (40 minutes away)
-Access is a plus
Jerry Love
-Chaplain at Orange County correctional center
-Ex-con
-Helps inmates (non-denominational)
-Lots of volunteer opportunities outside of the prison
-Strong Christian faith himself
-Access is possible, students have made films there already (potential negative)
-Definitely open to sharing his story

Nathan - Who is my character and what do they really want?
Alice - Christene wants to heal. Alluded to her past herself.
Danielle - Did not hide the fact that she is a survivor herself.
AM - Self-healing through helping others heal. Raj is looking to share his experience growing up in a not-so-great part of Baltimore, as well as being the son of Thai immigrants. Lots of strong emotion with his art. Uses the word “fail alot.” Anger as well. Jerry’s is the most compelling. Belonging to a system and then choosing to work for it.
Carson - Why did he make that choice?
AM - Not sure. Want to find out.
CM - Where does he preach?
DM - Leader of the ministries at the church.
AM - He volunteers everywhere.
CM - Where is the second dimension of the story? Jerry’s story could have layers with a second act.

-Intersectional student advocacy trying to get an Asian American Studies department on campus
-Wants to take the intersectional side, look at how BSA students have mobilized
-Intersectional impact
-Push since 2002 for this program
-Administration has been moving really slow and going back and forth on this issue
-There has been space created, but none of the other assurances have been met
-A quarter of students at Duke identify as either Asian American or Asian, so there is clearly a demand and need for this department
-Students of color are willing to mobilize for this issue
Claire Wang - President of Duke Climate Coalition
-The current event aspect of this coalition
-Proposed natural gas plan which goes against Duke students and commitment to divest
-2014 pivotal year for divestment
-there’s an event tonight and this week
-lots of opportunities for visuals and interviews
-Reveal/Significane: digging deeper into environmental justice in Durham
-How are Duke Energy influencing natural environment, where we live
-What say do actual students have? Is there fairness?

-Movement to shift Duke’s campus eventually to 100% renewable energy efficient campus
-Intrigue in environmental causes catalyzed by growing up in a lot of different states (moved around alot)
-Loves nature
-Process and red tape in writing to legislation to get people to install policies
-Explore the steps of initiating change
-Personal perspective on the current election and how that focuses on environmental issues
-Death of Great Barrier Reef (this was satire, i think)
-ND pipeline

-Benson Five - five young black boys who, after MLK assassination, that were frustrated, went out and rioted and looted. Burned down KKK meeting home. Did not succeed. Only able to burn a portion of the wooden door which was $30 of damage. Were arrested, went to court, judge signed 12 years of labor for $30 of damage. Outcry statewide.

-Commissioned a female designer with a team of all women to design the terraces

-Potential side stories of those who have been inspired

-This Sunday is their 4-year anniversary party at Fullsteam

-Pilot program started by two Duke seniors (Anya and Courtney)
-Anya really interested in poverty
-Courtney more from an ENV SCI background, interested in sustainability
-Takes care of ugly produce and redistributing to those who need produce and fruit
-They have 30 people in the pilot program who are receiving 13 lbs for $10, distributed to their front doors
-Duke students on central campus are participating in the pilot program
-Feedback is people would like to know what they’re getting in advance
-Lots of mini-stories
-A girl received a whole basket of japalenos and made jalapeno cookies
-Poverty and also environment
-Come from farms in Durham
“All shapes are welcome”
Piedmont Prairie
-New feature of Duke gardens
-Quinn has been working on this since freshman year
-Used to be quarter acre of pine trees
-Curator wanted to turn it into a prairie
-Historically prairies were really prevalent, but pine trees took over
-Goal of project was to get ecosystem that we don’t have at Duke and bring it to Duke and see what the benefits are
-Student perspective for studying as well as biodiversity standpoint
-Might be able to go to a collection
